Brought the dog or just fancy a walk? Head down to Jesmond Dene, just a short stroll from the hotel. Here you'll find miles of paths and trails, picnic areas and Pets Corner, ideal for family outings. Or for a more urban route, a walk along the River Tyne down at the Quayside is a pleasant way to explore more of Newcastle.

Further afield but easily accessible for a day trip are the towns and villages of Northumberland. There's such a variety of places to visit from coastal castles to stately homes such as Cragside and Wallington. The Farne Islands off Seahouses with it's colonies of Pufffins and Seals are a must for nature lovers; Hadrian's Wall is a magnet for those preferring a longer ramble.

There is something for everyone around the city. If museums are your thing, the Great North Museum (free entry) focuses on natural history and ancient civilisations (including Egyptian mummies, always a favourite!) and  has a good range of featured exhibits. The Discovery Museum  (free entry) is all about science and local history, and is great for both kids and adults.  Next to the railway station,The Centre for Life is an interactive life science museum with various zones for kids (and grown ups) of all ages!  Permanent  features include the Planetarium, Science Theatre and the 4-D motion ride. During the Winter months, Times Square just outside the Centre is transformed into a skating rink- a fantastic way to celebrate your Christmas trip to Newcastle.
A liitle further away Beamish is a world famous open air musuem, telling the story of life in the North East throughout the 19th and 20th century. Over 300 acres of countryside provide insight into the history of ordinary people in our region; all parts are accessible via original trams. Beamish is 10 miles from Newcastle and accessible via car or bus.

In the city centre you can also find the Laing Art Gallery, which hosts a number of displays from famous artists throughout history and often holds free talks. Across the Millenium Bridge on the Quayside is the Baltic which holds four floors of modern art. Just beyond the bottom of Dean Street, on your way to the Quayside, you can find the Side Gallery. This small space exhibits photography from both local and international photographers over two floors.

At night, there are many music venues open around Newcastle hosting an array of genres. The Sage, on the banks of The Tyne hosts a variety of gigs, concerts, lectures and conferences as well as being home to The Northern Sinfonia. Larger scale concerts are usually performed at the Utilita Arena , the North East's largest conference and sports venue. For wanting an alternative to mainstream acts, The Stand comedy club in High Bridge offers live comedy most nights of the week.
